Taro Amano

Amano stayed true to Wright in other ways, as well. He wrote an introduction to Wright's autobiography and published it in Japan in 1954, then convinced a colleague, Kiyoshi Higuchi, to begin the daunting task of translating it into Japanese.

Amano also designed buildings, all of them guided by the Wright spirit. His 1959 Shin-Hanayashiki Golf Club featured a series of cantilevers jutting out over a slope, while his Tateyama Resort and Musashi Ranzan Country Club, both completed in the early 1960s, demonstrated his mastery of the horizontal and of interlocking spaces.  (KS)
